De Panne //
Public Road

The name ‘De Panne’ refers to the word ‘(bowl-shaped) hollow in the dunes’. The area was inhabited as far back as the 5th century but is was Joseph II who gave incentives to develop it to a coastal fishing town in 1782. Leopold I, the first King of Belgium, set foot on shore in what is now the most westerly seaside town. The fishing industry disappeared over the years but De Panne has become a renowned tourist hot-spot.

Besides the amusement park ‘Plopsaland’ De Panne can offer lovers of peaceful recreation well over 600 ha of nature and walking space.

In De Panne, we have approximately 977 parking spaces in the payement zone.
