Menen //
Public Road
City by the Leie in the Province of Western Flanders counting 32000 habitants. Menen was situated on the trade route between Brussels and Lille and it was mentionned as far back as 1087.
Being a border city, Menen was fortified early on by the architect Vauban. The Leie played an important part in the city’s development. Menen was famous for its beer in the 16th century and boasted 104 breweries. In 1548 a large part of the city was destroyed by a fire. Now, Menen is an industrious city bordering on Northern France, situated in a dynamic region close to Lille.
